New York – Markus Lupfer showed his resort 2012 collection and film at the Mondrian SoHo hotel in New York this week.
The short film, entitled The Puzzle of the Mysterious Mind, was inspired by a 1960s documentary that filmmaker Tabitha Denholm had seen on the mind and people’s perceptions of personalities.
The story profiles six characters, each named after a different anxiety or negative aspect of modern popular culture. Out of Focus is a victim of stuffocation and information overload, and Hoarder has an unhealthy attachment to her mountain of clothing.
The style of the film is comical, and the collection’s boldly coloured knitwear, faux belts and sequins suit its retro references. As fashion film becomes an essential way of telling the brand story, we expect to see designers creating more captivating films to engage and excite.
