London – At LS:N Global’s Drinks Network Evening last month, Edmund Weil, owner of London speakeasy bar The Nightjar, explained how people are growing tired of crowded clubs and adopting a more grown-up attitude to drink.
Speakeasy bars provide customers with an off-the-beaten-track atmosphere, according to Weil, and this is partly what attracts people to The Nightjar.
‘People like the idea of knowing something unique that their friends may not know about,’ says Weil. ‘Bars that market by word of mouth give customers a sense of ownership over the experience they are having.’
The Nightjar also offers an experience that departs from familiar notions of crowded London bars. ‘We are all about space. Bar-owners that cram people in and offer a poor experience are not thinking about the long term of the industry,’ says Weil.
