London – Lebanese designer Najla El Zein has installed a waterfall of paper windmills at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the London Design Festival.
El Zein’s walk-through installation, The Wind Portal, is in a doorway of the Day-Lit Gallery, a new part of the museum. The designer wanted to ‘emphasise and exaggerate the transition between one space and the other with the use of wind and sound’, she tells LS:N Global.
El Zein collaborated with lighting designer Maurice Asso of Hilights to create the light and motorised wind effects. The Wind Portal is reminiscent of our Kinetic Nature design direction, which identified designers who were creating kinetic works based on movement inspired by the natural world.

The Wind Portal by Najla El Zein is on view at the Victoria and Albert Museum until 3 November.
